Smartphone Technology & Cars Equals Brand New Gorilla Glass Windshields
by AutoExpert | 13 July, 2021
Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler get an amazing futuristic windshield, dubbed Gorilla Glass. According to Jeep Performances Parts, the windshield is based on the same technology of chemicals getting strengthened as the smartphone screens’ one.
Moreover, the windshield will come with an ultra-thin Gorilla Glass inner ply, with an outer ply 52% thicker, which should make the windshield lighter and more resistant.
As wonderful as this all sounds, Jeep is ready to swear for that quality for a limited period of 2 years. That’s how much the guarantee covers. Ok, so judging by the papers, we get the same coverage as the standard windshield, with a monkey logo on it.
Mark Bosanac from Mopar says that windshields can be damaged anytime, anywhere. So the new Gorilla Glass signed windshields are meant to provide car owners more protection. “More protection” means of course more money. The current offering for Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator adds an additional USD 793. If you want some extra options, like forward cameras, prices will reach up to USD 932.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? It just might, as Jeep has already offered Gorilla Glass windshields on 2007-2018 Wrangler models. They seem to still be on the market with a price tag saying USD 645.
