According to the publication Auto Motor und Sport, Opel could launch a new entry-level model. The German journalists citing sources in the brand Russelsheim, saying that the model will cost less than 10,000 Euros, will have four doors and four seats and will be scheduled for the beginning of 2016.
Moreover, the model will have a new platform called Global Small Car, internally developed by General Motors. The AMS logic explains the need for the new offer of the model entry-level replacement for the Chevrolet range. At the moment, the most affordable model in the Chevrolet Spark is GM Europe portfolio.
With the elimination of GM Europe Chevrolet portfolio (excluding the CIS countries), the most affordable product is Opel Corsa. The new model of Opel, talking about the Germans from AMS, serves to replace the Spark in the portfolio of GM Europe, because the US group to continue to have access to the public which models cost less than 10,000 euro.
The American corporation took the decision away from the sale of the Chevrolet brand in Europe in 2016 to eliminate the possibility of cannibalization between the two marks, but Opel will have to "fill the space" that will be left by Chevrolet on both the segment itself, and on the purchase price.
