New Mclaren 765LT Spider Will Be Sold In Limited Numbers For Less Than $400,000

McLaren revealed a Spider version of their monstrously speedy 765LT supercar today, equipped with the same 755 hp motor, enhanced aero, and copious carbon-fiber insert. Only 765 units will be produced, with nearly a third of those destined for North America. The starting price is only $382,500.

New Mclaren 765LT Spider is nearly identical to its fixed-roof counterpart, except for a one-piece carbon-fiber retractable roof. Over the 720S Spider, this means a revised shape that improves downforce by 25% and a weight drop of 176 lbs (for a new total of 3060 lbs). A twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 with 755 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque sits beneath the surface, sending power to the back wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

A unique suspension system, 10-spoke forged alloy wheels with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R tires, larger brakes, and a titanium exhaust system with 4 enormous exit pipes at the rear are all included. Despite being 106 lbs heavier than the basic 765LT, the new Mclaren 765LT Spider has the same acceleration as its hardtop counterpart. According to McLaren, the car can reach 60 mph in 2.7 secs and 124 mph in 7.2 secs.

The new drop-top assembly outperforms the 675LT's slow hydraulically controlled fold-away roof, tucking down and out of sight in under 11 secs. While the 675LT Spider's top can only be folded at 18 mph, the 765LT Spider's top can be folded at 31 mph. The active rear wing has been repositioned for maximum efficacy in both top-up and top-down modes.

When closed, the single-piece convertible Mclaren 765LT Spider's roof has a carbon fiber frame with a noise-reducing foam core integrated into, according to McLaren, creating a full carbon shell. As a result of the lack of a central seal, the company was able to increase headroom and lengthen the roof panel, allowing the A-pillars to be moved forward. The folding system is driven by 8 electrical motors, and McLaren claims that when in use, the sound level would not exceed 60 decibels.
