Mazda MX-30 Retro Sports Edition: A Stylish Comeback For The EV
by AutoExpert | 1 November, 2024
Mazda bid farewell to the MX-30 EV in the U.S. after struggling with sales—only 66 units sold in the first half of 2023 and a mere 324 throughout 2022. But don’t count it out just yet; in Japan, the MX-30 is still going strong in electric, range-extender, and mild-hybrid versions.
Now, it’s getting a fresh makeover with the new Retro Sports Edition, which brings some eye-catching updates. This special edition elevates the MX-30's style with a bold two-tone appearance, showcasing sleek black accents on the wing mirrors and wheels.
It’s available in three new paint options, including a striking terracotta hue that really makes a statement. Inside, the biggest change is the upgrade to a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen, replacing the older 8.8-inch display. This new setup comes with wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, plus a switch to USB-C ports for modern connectivity.
The Retro Sports Edition also boasts enhanced safety features. It now boasts a forward-detection system that can spot pedestrians, a driver monitoring system, and a helpful rear-seat alert to ensure no little ones are left behind. Plus, new connected services like an alarm and remote engine start let owners manage their MX-30 right from the My Mazda app, including adjusting the climate control before stepping inside.
For those eyeing the price tag, the entry-level MX-30 Retro Sports Edition starts at approximately 2,935,900 yen (around $19,300) with a mild-hybrid 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The range-extender rotary EV model runs between 4,356,000 yen ($28,600) and 4,942,300 yen ($32,400), while the flagship MX-30 EV starts at 4,669,500 yen ($30,700) and can go up to 5,211,800 yen ($34,200).
