Matte Finish Cars: Ultimate Guide to Caring for Your Non-Glossy Paint

Love the look of those sleek, no-shine matte car finishes? You're not alone! Matte paint jobs are becoming super popular now, and new luxury cars pop out of the factory straight in their matte paint.
But take the following facts into account before choosing matte finish.

Everybody knows it: matte paint is a high-maintenance diva. Not exactly true anymore! Sure, it takes a little special care, but it's not as scary as you might think.

Matte Finish

First things first: What is matte paint, anyway?

Think of it as the opposite of shiny. Regular car paint has a clear coat that makes it all glossy and reflective. Matte paint uses a special clear coat that's, well, matte! It has a texture that scatters light instead of reflecting it, giving that cool flat look.

Okay, so how do I keep this thing looking good?

Here's the key: forget about everything you know about washing your car. Automatic car washes are a big no-no for matte finishes. Those harsh chemicals and scrubby brushes will wreck the special clear coat. Instead, you'll need to give your matte car a gentle hand wash with special products designed just for it.

Matte Finish

Think of it like washing your fanciest cashmere sweater – special care for a special look! There are even matte-specific spot cleaners and detail sprays to keep things tidy between washes.

Wait, there are special products?

Yep! Regular car wax is a big don't-do for matte finishes. It will fill in the texture and make your car look, well, not matte anymore. Instead, you'll want to use a matte sealant. It protects your paint without ruining the whole matte vibe.

Matte Finish

Scratches? What about those?

Matte paint does tend to show scratches a little more easily than glossy paint. But hey, there's a trade-off for everything, right? The good news is, minor scratches often get hidden by the matte texture.

The important thing to remember: bigger scratches or anything that goes deep into the paint job will need a professional touch. Buffing and polishing are no-gos for matte finishes,  since they can actually make things worse.

Matte Finish

So, is matte paint right for me?

Matte looks are just like a being in a relationship: it can all be great as long as you get involved and take care. There are plenty of products there to use for it. However, if you find it kinda too much, you can always stick with the glossy finish.
