Lamborghini's Entry Into EVs: The Lanzador Concept
by AutoExpert | 27 December, 2023
Lamborghini is making a bold entry into the electric vehicle market with the production version of the Lanzador Concept, unveiled earlier this year. What sets this upcoming supercar apart is its unique design that blurs the lines between a coupe, sedan, and crossover.
Shedding light on this distinctive choice, Federico Foschini, Lamborghini's chief marketing and sales officer, explained that the brand explored the need for a sedan or a 2+2 vehicle in its lineup.
However, they opted against a traditional sedan for two main reasons:. Foschini explained, "We were scouting opportunities in our portfolio, and there are two segments that we are not covering. One is the sedan segment, and the other is the 2+2 segment." He made the point that the declining sedan market and regional differences in preferences had an impact on the decision not to pursue a conventional sedan.
In regions like China, where sedans are popular, long-wheelbase cars are preferred, which doesn't align with Lamborghini's brand identity. Mitja Borkert, Lamborghini's head of design, revealed that the design team drew inspiration from the higher driving position of the Huracan Sterrato. "We were working on the Huracán Sterrato, where you have this higher seating position.
There’s the exterior cladding, and it looks quite rugged. I said that a cleaner version of the Sterrato could work perfectly for the 2+2. It’s a spaceship with a higher position." Despite the absence of specific details about the Lanzador's powertrain, there's speculation that it could potentially surpass Lamborghini's current powerhouse, the Revuelto, boasting 1,001 hp. The expected launch date for the Lanzador is set for 2028.
