Dealer Markups Soar: Shocking Price Hikes on Popular Cars
by AutoExpert | 27 March, 2024
This whole markup thing has gotten straight-up ridiculous. It's like car dealers think we're all made of money! And the worst part? They're adding these insane markups to some of the newest, coolest cars on the market. Let's break down some of the biggest offenders:
Ford Ranger Raptor - $30,000 Markup: You probably haven't even seen one of these bad boys on the road yet, probably thanks to dealers doing THIS. Power Ford in New Mexico wants an extra $30K on top of the truck's actual price! Highway robbery.
Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport - $10,000 Markup: The new Tacoma finally arrived, and what do dealers do? SLAP a $10k markup on some trims. I mean, who's paying $60 grand for a TRD Sport? (Spoiler alert: some poor soul at Stevens Creek Toyota, apparently)
Kia EV9 - $17,000 Markup: This is one of the best new EVs around, but dealers are being super greedy. One in Hawaii is trying to get an extra $17K on top of the MSRP. That's almost a whole other cheap EV right there!
Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye - $79,000 Markup: Okay, Hellcats were always pricey, but THIS is nuts. A dealer in Michigan wants Porsche-level money for one... like, $215k. And they call that "employee pricing"!
Ford Mustang Dark Horse - $22,000 Markup: We all knew the Dark Horse was gonna be hot, but dealers charging GT500 money for it? That basically makes it a super expensive appearance package.
Toyota Sienna - $15,000 Markup: Minivans are hot commodities, especially hybrids, but $73k for a Sienna? That's Lexus territory. And someone actually paid this, bless their heart...
And guess what? It gets WORSE when they're marking up affordable cars:
Chevy Trax - $8,000 Markup: The Trax is supposed to be cheap and cheerful. Paying almost $35k takes the cheer right out of the equation.
Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV - $7,000 Markup: Sure, it's a nice plug-in hybrid, but $56k feels insane for a Mitsubishi, no matter how fancy.
Subaru Crosstrek - $10,000 Markup: The Crosstrek is meant for adventures, not emptying your bank account. This dealer in California wants $43k for one...not even the Wilderness trim!
Nissan Z NISMO - $20,000 Markup: The new Z is awesome, but $90k awesome? That's more than a Porsche Cayman, y'all.
This is just a taste of the craziness out there. Makes you wonder what ridiculous markups we're going to see next...
