Prodrive, the British motorsport and advanced engineering technology group has taken quite a task upon itself - to create a million-dollar, street-legal version of the Hunter Dakar Racer. The version racer will be sold and maybe soon enough we will see them on the street.
Nicknamed Prodrive Hunter, the original Dakar Racer has a body designed by Ian Callum, former Jaguar design chief in partnership with Nani Roma behind the wheel got a well-deserved fifth place this year in January. The production model should at least keep enough parts to give the customers a similar-look-alike to the racer.
Daker Racer in production model version will be powered by the same 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 producing up to 500 horsepower coupled to a more sophisticated transmission to use on the roads. Comparing to the racer version, there a plus 100 horsepower gain for future owners.
Also, the Prodrive build car could have the same structure and suspension setup, while the body gets widened which should accommodate larger wheels and tires. Keeping the racer's spirit, there should be no terrain that could be impossible to drive through.
According to David Richards, Prodrive Founder & Chief Executive, the first idea of producing this car was to build a detuned version, but the January events became a mind changer and they wanted a version with more than 500bhp car along with more power and add a tunned transmission and a different designed interior. Comfort became a priority along with the above-mentioned improvements.
The prototype is scheduled to be presented at end of the year, but the price should proudly exceed one million pounds.
