Mercedes-Benz already owns a 5% stake in Aston Martin supercar manufacturer, and in an attempt to refresh its work and to expand the range of exotic models, Dieter Zetsche Chairman of Mercedes, did not exclude the possibility to acquire the remaining shares in Aston Martin.
"This is a fantastic brand and we are willing to support its future development, "said Zetsche. He noted that Aston is looking for an executive president. Currently, the partnership between Mercedes and Aston Martin consists of using common engines and other essential components.
This partnership could be extended to the platform level and the models of the two brands will use an architecture developed together to reduce costs (circulating rumors that the next MB GL will share the platform with a counterpart from Aston, who will wear the logo Lagonda).
Regarding the plans already drawn up, the division is responsible for the development of the AMG V8 engine intended to go under the hood of the next-generation Vantage. During the last stage, Aston Martin will design the engine specifications and AMG will be responsible for development and testing.
