Could Tesla Model 2 Actually Cost $25,000?
by AutoExpert | 4 March, 2021
Last year, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, confirmed plans for a fully-automatic model at the Battery Day Event. The production of the $25,000 Model 2 is assumed to start in 2023, in one of the Chinese-based plant, but no details were revealed about the project itself.
A fully-automatic Tesla Model 2 at such a low price would definitely give the company a high records-sales. The model would be targeted for domestic use and exported globally across the world. After a thorough analysis of the Chinese market, it’s obvious that the perfect niche for Tesla would be the microsized electric vehicles, which are selling like mad right now in China without being a high-tech vehicle or, luxurious car.
Assuming that Tesla would use the Model 3 platform and tooling for the hatchback, but with a smaller 244-mile battery and some advanced autonomous tech on board. This is where the $25,000 price range is not easy to achieve and seems like a Sci-Fi scenario.
The hatchback body would be mostly based on the Model 3, which also needs serious upgrades to meet the 2023’s tendencies on both European and Chinese markets. So far, we have an official sketch provided by Tesla for the Model 2 looks more like a coupe. The prime projects right now are the development of Cybertruck and the Roadster models.
