German carmaker, Borgward, has resurfaced after almost 50 years of bankruptcy and intends to become a major player in the industry. The formerly known as BMW rival, the company is based in Germany but is funded by Chinese investors. And they plan to take over European and Asian markets.
Said and done, Borgward presented their first car, the BX7 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It has a 2-liter 4 cylinder turbocharged engine that delivers 221 hp. Later they will offer a hybrid model that can release 294 horses and has an autonomy of 34 miles in electric mode.
he BX7 has a design suitable more for Shanghai Motor Show and not for Frankfurt. However, Borgward has a very competitive price strategy which aims to make them attractive for Europeans (20,000 EUR or less than $30,000).
The Chinese hope to sell 800k units by 2020 and 1,6 million by 2025.
