Celebrating Motorsport Legacy: Genesis Introduces Jacky Ickx Tribute X Gran Berlinetta Concept
by AutoExpert | 17 April, 2024
Genesis has given the X Gran Berlinetta concept a new life in honor of the racing career of the late Jacky Ickx. The commemorative tribute in Switzerland prominently displays the legendary Belgian racecar driver's name. The homage chooses a more muted Midnight Blue tone.
Racing flag stickers adorn the fenders, while a white stripe on the hood honors Jacky Ickx's helmet. Those enormous alloy wheels are finished in shiny gold. In December 2023, the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta concept made its debut as a design study for the Gran Turismo video game.
Most importantly, it embodies the athletic elegance design philosophy of the brand. The event will showcase Genesis's Magma range of performance-focused production cars, which includes the electric GV60 crossover, G80 sedan, and GV80 Coupe SUV. Genesis also described the study's complex hybrid powertrain. One electric motor provides an additional 201 horsepower, while a front-mounted, mid-mounted V6 engine produces 870 horsepower.
An undeniably scorching hypercar, the X Gran Berlinetta boasts a whopping 1,071 horsepower and 986 lb-ft of torque. Jacky Ickx is well-known for his six victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, which places him second all-time, behind only Tom Kristensen's nine. Ickx has an outstanding record in racing across several disciplines, not just at Le Mans. He has won eight Formula 1 races, the Paris-Dakar, the Can-Am championship, and an astounding 37 major World Sports Car races.
At a private event on Lake Geneva, Genesis Switzerland showcased the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Tribute Concept in collaboration with Chopard, a Swiss luxury jeweler and wristwatch. The most recent limited edition watches from Chopard, the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph JX7 (which costs $12,100) and the Genesis collaboration (which costs $10,300), both include Ickx's signature.
