BMW's Electric Revolution: Introducing The Vision Neue Klasse X SUV
by AutoExpert | 22 March, 2024
It's no secret that BMW is undergoing a radical transformation; the completely electric Vision Neue Klasse X serves as a sneak peek at the first SUV to carry the Neue Klasse nameplate. However, it won't be until 2025 that the manufacturing of these automobiles begins.
Between 2025 and 2027, the Neue Klasse platform will see the release of the X, the second of six electric vehicles. The new design language is "pared-down," according to the carmaker, which would mean that designers have finally listened to consumer requests.
Like the 2002 and the original Neue Klasse sedan from the '60s, it includes a small kidney grille. While the grilles glow from within, a melon baller hollows out the kidneys. By eschewing circular and squirrel-shaped lighting in favor of vertical LEDs, the headlights mimic the design of the Neue Klasse car.
Electric vehicles allow BMW to showcase "classic BMW proportions," according to the automaker. With its panoramic sunroof and relatively low beltline, the Neue Klasse X seems like a futuristic experience while still clearly attempting to preserve its shark-nosed appearance.
There has been a 25% improvement in economy, thanks in part to revised tire and brake designs, and a 20% improvement in aerodynamics compared to previous X models. Continuing from the Neue Klasse sedan, which used 3D-printed parts dispersed over many layers in a style that demonstrated depth, the rear has unusual taillights.
Because it is still in its conceptual stage, the BMW Neue Klasse X has not yet received confirmation about its powertrain or estimated mileage. Nevertheless, it has BMW's sixth-generation eDrive technology, which boasts a 30% increase in range and comparable improvements in charging speed. The device will use energy-dense spherical battery cells and run on an 800-volt architecture to enable quick charging.
The new chassis and motor units supposedly provide a better driving experience, and the X reveals how BMW will manage its next line of electric vehicles. Within the past year, BMW has created four brand-new control units. The company refers to these as super brains because they allegedly possess 10 times more computing power. There are two independent "brains" here, one for the engine and another for autonomous driving.
Bumper buttons instead control BMW Panoramic Vision and the center screen. A specialized control for altering the sound of the Neue Klasse X is located on the HyPersonX wheel, which allows for real-time adjustment of this characteristic. A Fresh Perspective Neue Klasse incorporates a newly created, environmentally friendly, and petroleum-free plant-based substance. Inside, you'll find a plethora of recovered marine plastics, with 30 percent coming from abandoned fishing nets.
As for Panoramic Vision, it's an upgrade above the standard infotainment. The projection of information spans the entire windshield, precisely adjusting to the driver's height. When you're behind the wheel, the BMW 3D HUD shows you useful facts like traffic directions and assisted driving capabilities. Next year, the Neue Klasse X goes into production at BMW's Debrecen facility in Hungary. And, as already mentioned, it's quite probable that this version will become the second-generation iX3.
If rumors are to be believed, BMW will maintain the iX3/Neue Klasse X and the ICE-powered X3 as distinct models for at least one more generation. Tests have spotted a prototype of the fossil fuel-powered vehicle, with an official release date of the third quarter of 2024.
