The idea, which is based on the Atlas Cross Sport SEL Premium R-Line and has a slew of design and performance enhancements, is the latest in a long line of enthusiast versions.
Looking to start with the exterior, Atlas Cross Sport GT is painted Eisvogelblau and has gloss black trim instead of chrome elements. ST Suspension XTA Plus 3 coilovers and color-matched springs have also been installed on the car. The 22 in ABT Sport HR AeroWheels, which are encased in Yokohama Advan Sport tires and supported by eight-piston Tarox front calipers, round off the features.
The concept's racy appearance continues inside, with four Recaro Sportster CS seats upholstered in microfiber and faux leather. A bespoke gearshift, blue seat belts, and unique floor mats complete the look. A flat-bottom steering wheel and a back center console with secure and extra USB charging connections complete the concept.
There's a version of the EA888 2.0 TSI motor found in the VW Golf R under the hood. The carmaker didn't provide many details but did say the engine has an IS38 turbo and delivers more than 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS). The motor is paired to a seven-speed DSG gearbox, which powers a 4Motion AWD system. In terms of the powertrain, a front-mounted radiator from an Mk7 Golf R was being added to Atlas Cross Sport GT Concept.
“The debut of the all-new Golf GTI and Golf R set us wondering about how to introduce some of that VW magic into our SUVs,” said Scott Keogh, CEO of the Volkswagen Group of America. "This concept demonstrates that SUVs may be designed to appeal to our performance fan base.”
