Ariel Nomad 2 Is The Next Chapter In Off-Road Performance
by AutoExpert | 11 July, 2024
The Ariel Motor Company's daring Nomad is now in its second generation. This new Nomad model borrows its turbocharged 2.3-liter engine from the Ford Focus ST, as opposed to the older vehicle's 2.4-liter K24 supercharged engine.
The off-road buggy, which is legal for driving on public roads, gains power to 305 horsepower and 382 pound-feet of torque. That is a significant increase of 70 horsepower and 161 pound-feet of torque compared to the previous generation. Interestingly, only three components from the previous Nomad made it into this brand-new model.
But the Nomad 2's electronic control unit is swappable and comes with three maps to choose from. In addition to the high-end configuration, there are lower-end models available with 260 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque, as well as a mid-range variant with 302 horsepower and 333 pound-feet of torque. The Nomad 2, with its lightweight design weighing in at a feathery 1,576 pounds, is agile and ready to conquer any terrain.
It can accelerate to a maximum speed of 134 mph and reach 60 mph in only 3.4 seconds. This little off-roader has a 94.3-inch wheelbase and measures 133.8 inches in length, 73.2 inches in width, and 58.0 inches in height. Its 48-degree approach and 64-degree departure angles allow it to conquer some of the most challenging terrains in the world. It has Eibach coil springs on both axles and rides on 16-inch wheels shod with Yokohama Geolandar A/T 235/70R16 tires.
Ariel offers a Quaife sequential transmission based on the Atom 4 and Atom 4R as an available upgrade for the Focus ST's six-speed manual gearbox. The Nomad 2 utilizes this transmission. With 40% larger brakes, the new Nomad 2 is ready to go. Ariel installs the AP four-piston calipers and 290-mm vented discs on all four wheels of the Atom 4, which is an extra-cost option.
The chassis's torsional stiffness has increased by more than 60%, significantly enhancing structural rigidity. There is a plethora of customization options available, such as wheels made of forged alloys or beadlock, and an optional driver-adjustable anti-lock braking system (ABS) with road and off-road modes is available for an additional charge. In the UK, the base price is £67,992 ($87,000) before you add any of the 100+ possible extras.
