AMG GT Motorsport Collectors Edition: A Petronas-Themed Tribute To F1
by AutoExpert | 18 September, 2024
Mercedes-AMG has had a tough time in this year’s F1 Championship, lagging behind teams like McLaren, Red Bull, and Ferrari. Instead of shying away, though, they’re rolling out a limited-edition version of their AMG GT coupe called the "Motorsport Collectors Edition."
The 63 Pro 4Matic+, a track-focused but road-legal model, serves as the foundation for this special edition. It’s limited to just 200 units, each one sporting a livery inspired by the Petronas-sponsored F1 cars Mercedes-AMG has been racing in 2023 and 2024.
Though the team came second to Red Bull in 2023, this edition celebrates the racing spirit. Typically, a GT in Obsidian Black with the AMG Nite Package would be understated and sleek. But the Collectors Edition adds flair, with hand-painted stars across the rear and striking Petronas aquamarine stripes along the side window graphics, sills, 21-inch wheels, and front air intakes. Even the massive calipers on the carbon brake system get the same bold color.
The theme continues inside, where aqua accents on the illuminated door sills, ambient lighting, and sports seats covered in Nappa leather and microfiber add to the dramatic look. Fans of F1 will appreciate the details, while others might think it’s got a futuristic sci-fi vibe or brings back memories of car culture in its prime. Mechanically, it’s still the same as other GT Pro models.
The 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine remains, pushing out 603 horsepower—a small bump over the 576 horsepower of the standard GT 63 4Matic+. This gives it the ability to hit 62mph in 3.2 seconds and max out at 197mph. The rear wing and aero elements from the GT Pro remain intact as well. Although Mercedes-AMG hasn't disclosed the 200 cars' exact pricing or whether they've sold any yet, we expect them to cost between $180,000 and $200,000.
