All-Wheel-Drive Excellence: Meet The Renault Rafale E-Tech 4×4
by AutoExpert | 20 May, 2024
You are now staring at the Rafale E-Tech 4×4 300 horsepower, the first all-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid version of Renault's most prestigious coupe.
Last summer saw the unveiling of the Rafale, with its first launch model being a front-wheel-drive, 1.2-liter conventional hybrid that produced 197 horsepower from two electric motors: one internal to the starting generator and another larger one located in the gearbox.
By installing a third rear-mounted motor that produces 134 horsepower, the new top-of-the-line vehicle gains 297 horsepower, which is equivalent to 300 hp. From 0 to 62 mph, it takes 8.9 to 6.4 seconds less than the front-wheel-drive hybrid, and a 22 kWH battery gives you 62 miles of electric range, adding to an impressive 621 miles of total range.
It takes 130 minutes to charge the battery to 80%, and it completes the recharge in 2 hours and 55 minutes. An option of two trim levels is available to buyers. Esprit Alpine badged base models include a few performance-oriented Alpine design elements, including branded mats and 20-inch wheels. Atelier Alpine versions have Satin Summit Blue paint, a Starry Black floating spoiler, and 21-inch 'Chicane' wheels.
To take things a step further, the Atelier Alpine has an adaptable suspension that can scan the road ahead and communicate with the dampers. To further customize the dampers and rear-wheel steering angle, these high-end vehicles additionally have a chassis control option on the media screen. This menu offers three distinct modes: comfort, dynamic, and sport. Renault has not said how much the Rafale E-Tech will cost, but they do claim it will go on sale in Europe this fall.
