A Carbon Fiber Wheelchair Design Won The $1million Prize from Toyota Mobility

The 2020 International Mobility Competition was a tight one this year, but the U.K.’ Phoenix Instinct won the big prize. It’s an ultra-light carbon fiber wheelchair.

The winner’s feature and innovative spirit called Phoenix Instinct and puts the wheelchair industry to a whole new level. It uses a leveling system that adjusts its center of gravity automatically. This way it’s more stable and easier to maneuver.

Also, the power assist feature on the front wheels has the purpose to reduce vibrations through the body on an unstable road. The intelligent power braking system automatically detects the downhill road and literally adjusts the speed.
