At the 2021 Seoul Mobility Show, Kia will reveal a new version of its tiny crossover that was first shown 5 years ago as the 2017MY in the United States. For the new 2023 Kia Niro, the 2019 HabaNiro concept car was a major source of inspiration, especially for its two-toned body and wide, broad rear pillars.
According to the Korean automaker's "Opposites United" project plan, the new Niro was developed to establish a harmony between an ecologically friendly attitude and a future-oriented vision through the use of color, components, and finishes.
The 2023 Kia Niro has a tiger face with LED daytime running lights and significantly reworked headlights. Its striking look continues at the back, where LED taillights run the length of the pillars and feature an aggressive line.
The cabin of the 2023 Kia Niro also has been redesigned for the 2nd gen of the car. The most prominent feature is the off-center dashboard, which features a completely digital instrument cluster and a large infotainment screen directed towards the user. Kia has also included a dial-type shifter in the center console.
The new Niro's headliner is constructed of recycled wallpaper, whereas the seats are made of Bio PU with Tencel from eucalyptus leaves, according to the South Korean carmaker. To avoid waste and limit environmental effects, benzene, toluene, and xylene isomers-free paint were utilized on the door panels.
The Niro features a new "Greenzone Drive Mode." While operating in green zones, including residential neighborhoods, schools, and hospitals, this function automatically switches plug-in hybrids to all-electric mode. The device also recognizes the driver's preferred green zones in the navigation system.
Kia says the new Niro will be offered with HEV, PHEV, and pure-electric drivetrains starting next year. The first-generation Niro comes with three engine options: a basic hybrid 1.6-liter four-cylinder motor combined with a 139-horsepower electric engine, a plug-in hybrid variant of the latter with a range of 26 miles, and a 201-horsepower completely electric vehicle. Within the next few months, there will most certainly be a U.S. unveiling.
