2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz Receives Top Safety Pick
by AutoExpert | 4 November, 2021
For the first time, the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz was subjected to IIHS crash testing, and it performed admirably. It was given the organization's second-highest grade, Top Safety Pick.
Sadly, the non-turbo SE and SEL trim levels' headlamps prevent it from receiving the Top Safety Pick+ certification. All current IIHS crash testing gave the Santa Cruz high ratings. Furthermore, all forward collision avoidance systems were rated "Superior."
On the 2022 Hyundai Santa Cruz, though, the disparity between headlight types is striking. The turbocharged SEL Premium and Limited variants have LED projector headlamps and are rated "Good." Santa Cruz SE and SEL use halogen reflecting headlights, which received a "Poor" grade for bad visibility in both low or high beams.
Santa Cruz, like its close relative, the Tucson, could gain a Top Safety Pick+ designation if Hyundai produces new base-model headlamps that get at least an "Acceptable," which is the second-highest grade.
