Who's Up For A Race Against This 657-HP Ford Explorer ST?
by AutoExpert | 9 March, 2022
This Ford Explorer ST, which we recently discovered, is fantastic in every way. It's worth noting that the stock 3.0-liter V6 in the 2020 Ford Explorer ST produces 400 hp (298 kW). Summer tires help it reach 60 mph in under 5 seconds. Not bad, but Kevin Krupski was hoping for a little more. It all began easily, with Kevin opting for a 100-hp boost.
He was enthralled, and things quickly spiraled out of control. As Ford Explorer lacks a healthy aftermarket, even an exhaust modification needed a special approach. At FenFabrication, he made friends and created an exhaust system that resembled a masterpiece.
Kevin was so pleased with the result that he continued to work with FenFabrication for a variety of further enhancements. Updated turbos, a high-flow intake, improved wastegates, downpipes, intercooler, injectors, and other components all help this 3.0-liter V6 produce 657 hp to all four wheels.
With a 20% driveline loss, this monster could produce roughly 820 hp (611 kW) at the crankshaft. Since no high-performance parts are available for the Explorer, it has to be done the old-fashioned way, by experimentation.
This three-row Ford Explorer ST has enough muscle to run the quarter-mile in 10.9 seconds. Improved eight-piston brakes suck it back in once it's passed through the traps. The future may bring even more power, who knows.
