Volkswagen’s First-Generation Amarok Gets A Cosmetic Makeover With Enhanced Features

Volkswagen has brought back the first-generation Amarok truck, complete with updates specifically designed for the South American market. However, there are no mechanical upgrades; it is only a major cosmetic update over the previous generation of Amarok.
All eyes are on the restyled front end. Look closer at the redesigned grille to see that it now houses a full-width LED bar and contemporary headlamps. The intakes are evocative of the smaller VW Saveiro truck, and the bumper is much more contoured.
The truck gets a stylish upgrade with new 20-inch alloy wheels and a host of sleek black accents that enhance its overall look. The makeover also resulted in changes to the truck's dimensions. The truck's length increased by 96 mm, or 3.8 inches, to 5,350 mm, or 210.6 inches. A Safer Tag perched atop the dashboard relays audio and visual warnings to the driver in response to data received from the enhanced Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems, and a brand new 9-inch touchscreen controls the vehicle's entertainment system.
The base 2.0-liter turbodiesel and the top-of-the-line 3.0-liter V6 powertrains from the previous Amarok remain in the lineup. At its peak, the V6 produces 255 horsepower and 428 pound-feet of torque. Volkswagen's 4Motion technology and an eight-speed automatic gearbox distribute power to all four wheels.
