Toyota's GR Supra Makes Its Debut in 2023 With A Six-Speed Manual Transmission

Fans of the Supra were overjoyed when it returned, but many were disappointed that it was available only with an automatic transmission. The 2023 GR Supra, which includes a new six-speed manual transmission developed solely for the car's turbocharged 3.0-liter six-cylinder motor with 382 horsepower and 367 lb-ft of torque, corrects that mistake.
"An existing transmission housing, driveshaft, and gear set were modified and elements that were not required, such as the acoustic package, were removed, which reduced weight," Toyota added.
A bigger diameter clutch with a stronger diaphragm spring was then fitted. The manual Supra also has a reduced final drive ratio to minimize a delayed take-off and a low in-gear acceleration experience. The manual transmission's traction control, stability control, and anti-roll systems have also been re-calibrated. The track option has been tweaked to make drifting a breeze.
Finally, a new Hairpin+ function has been added to make riding on curvy roads more thrilling. Toyota will release an A91-MT Edition to honor the reintroduction of the manual transmission, which will be available only with the DIY transmission. 500 cars will arrive in the United States, each with a special Matte White or CU Later Gray bodywork with red highlights and Frozen Gunmetal Gray 19-inch forged wheels.
Aside from the six-speed manual transmission, the 2023 GR Supra receives several other improvements. Models with the 3.0-liter motor feature a reworked suspension and updated shock absorbers for better roll balancing and ride quality. A new electric power steering system and an active rear differential are also included.
A new Stratosphere Blue color choice has been added to the color palette, and the 3.0 trim now comes with new 19-inch forged aluminum wheels. The GR Supra 3.0 Premium, just like the A91-MT Edition, also includes a new 12-speaker JBL top-quality audio system. The 2023 GR Supra will be available for purchase in the United States later this year, with manual variant pricing to be released later this summer.
