Toyota Aygo X Is Back, And It's Looking Better Than Ever

Toyota has unveiled the Aygo X, a new product in the A-Segment that incorporates crossover traits into a city car, at the Tokyo Motor Show. Toyota Aygo X Prologue will be available in Europe in 2022 with a single non-hybrid powertrain option and maintain most of the unique appearance of the show car.

Toyota Aygo, together with its Citroen C1 and Peugeot 107 relatives, was first introduced in 2005 as part of a cooperation between Toyota and the PSA Group. With Peugeot and Citroen opting not to introduce a replacement, Toyota needed something innovative for the next Aygo.

Toyota decided that a small urban crossover would appeal to European shoppers. The concept was created in France, and the manufacturing version was produced in Belgium.

The 17- or 18-inch large-diameter wheels have a good effect on the car's proportions while enhancing ground clearance by 11mm (0.4 inches). The plastic wrapping surrounding the wheel arches matches the bi-tone finish of the aggressively contoured bodywork, giving the crossover a more enticing appearance.

Modern graphics adorn the full-LED headlights and taillights, while the form of the side windows brings a touch of ruggedness. Cardamon, Chilli, Ginger, and Juniper are among Aygo X's striking color options, which are all blended with black on the b-pillars, roof, and back area. For an open-air experience, a retractable canvas top is also offered.

The all-new Toyota Aygo X, unlike its predecessors, is built on Toyota's GA-B platform and features shorter overhangs and a smaller back chassis area.

Inside, the style is likewise geared toward a younger audience, with curving and color accents that mirror the outside. Toyota Smart Connect infotainment system is integrated with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, as well as over-the-air upgrades and cloud-based navigation, as well as other key characteristics.

Toyota Safety Sense suite, which combines a monocular video sensor and millimeter-wave radar, is standard on all Aygo X models in terms of safety. Pre-Collision System (PCS) with vehicle detection, day and night Pedestrian Detection, daytime Cyclist Detection, Collision Mitigation Support, Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Trace Assist, and Emergency Steering Assist are all part of the ADAS package.

A single powertrain choice is available for the Aygo X: a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter 12-valve three-cylinder gasoline engine with 71 hp (53 kW / 72 PS) and 93 Nm (68.6 lb-ft) of torque. The engine is connected to either a five-speed manual or an S-CVT automatic transmission, which sends power to the front axle.

The manual-equipped variant speeds from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 15.6 secs and tops out at 158 km/h (98.2 mph), while the S-CVT runs in 15.5 secs and tops out at 151 km/h (93.8 mph).
