The New 2024 Ford Transit Custom Nugget Is Packed With Features

Ford has just taken the wraps off its all-new Nugget campervan, and it's quite the upgrade from its previous version. The Nugget is now based on the latest Transit/Tourneo Custom platform, which promises a much smoother driving experience.
Ford has really broadened the powertrain options, offering not just the trusty diesel engine but also a modern plug-in hybrid choice. This exciting reveal took place at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, Germany.
The inside of the campervan has been given a serious makeover, thanks to the folks at Westfalia who handled the conversion. The interior now boasts different areas for cooking, chilling out, and catching some Zs—a clever use of space for sure. The pop-up roof, which houses the upper bed, is easier to handle now, thanks to a more user-friendly self-folding fabric.
And guess what? You can even add solar panels on top to juice up the leisure battery. The front seats can do a cool 180-degree spin, working together with the fold-out table and the heated rear bench to create a versatile living, dining, or working zone.
Speaking of the kitchenette, they've seriously stepped up their game. A slick new drawer fridge, a handy gas stove, and a sink with hot water come standard. Plus, they've managed to increase the countertop space by 20%, a win for anyone who loves cooking on the road. And wait for it—there's even a hot/cold shower outlet that pairs up with an optional tailgate privacy tent.
Tech-wise, the campervan is also loaded with a bunch of goodies. There's a nifty 7-inch touchscreen for climate controls, customizable LED interior lighting, and even an inclinometer. You'll get updates on water and battery levels, too. But that's not all; the infotainment system rocks a larger 13-inch touchscreen, a futuristic digital instrument cluster, and a bunch of smart driver assistance systems. USB-C ports are peppered around for everyone's charging needs, and there's even wireless charging on hand.
Oh, and yes, you'll be riding the 5G wave with this one. They've also gone all out on the audio system. The ride itself should feel a lot smoother thanks to some engineering tweaks, like the improved platform and the independent rear suspension.
The real star of the show, though, is the plug-in hybrid version. It pairs a 2.5-liter petrol engine with an electric motor to give you a combined power of 229 hp. The battery can run you around 31 miles on pure electric mode in the regular Transit/Tourneo Custom, though it might be a tad less in the slightly heavier Nugget. For those who prefer old-school power, the standard Nugget packs a punch with its 168-hp 2.0-liter EcoBlue diesel engine. It's hooked up to an 8-speed automatic gearbox for that smooth ride.
If you're up for more adventure, Ford's got you covered with all-wheel-drive variants in the works. Ready to get one? The Ford Transit Custom Nugget is up for grabs at Ford dealerships. Price-wise, it's looking to start at €76,500 ($83,102) in Germany. Deliveries are slated to kick off in spring 2024.
