Now that Alpina is a member of BMW, the automaker can provide even higher levels of refinement, individuality in design, and oomph in performance. The updated BMW Alpina XB7 is the most recent model in this category. The top-tier SUV model now has 630 horsepower and much other performance, design, and technology enhancements.

While the Alpina XB7 borrows the split-headlight appearance of the newly updated BMW X7, it sets itself apart with a unique front lip spoiler and aggressive trim on the lower intake.

The SUV rides on a set of 23-inch forged wheels with a characteristic multi-spoke design and a mixed set of Pirelli tires (285/35ZR23 in the front and 325/30ZR23 in the back). New inside trim choices, such as Alpina Myrtle Luxury Wood, Piano lacquer, and Natural Walnut Anthracite, further emphasize the vehicle's high-end character.

The sport steering wheel from Alpina is wrapped in Lavalina leather and hand-stitched in blue and green. A jewel-like Alpina iDrive controller, a gearshift selector with blue lighting, a unique plaque on the center console, and illuminated door sills set this SUV apart from the standard model.

The US-market XB7 is powered by a new iteration of the bi-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine with mild-hybrid technology, which generates 630 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. This is a gain of 18 horsepower over the previous model, enabled by a redesigned exhaust manifold, better cooling, and an Alpina ECU overhaul. While the maximum torque remains the same as in the former XB7, it is now accessible over a larger range of rpm (from 1,800 to 5,600).

With the aid of the xDrive technology and a retuned electronically variable limited-slip differential in the rear, an 8-speed automatic gearbox sends power to all four wheels. The increased power is evident in the 0.3-second reduction in the time required to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph, which is now 3.9 seconds. According to the manufacturer, even with the smaller 21-inch wheels, the vehicle can still reach a peak speed of 180 mph.
