The 2024 Audi SQ8 Roars Into The Scene At The Qatar-based Geneva Motor Show
by AutoExpert | 10 October, 2023
In a twist of geographical irony, the 2024 Audi SQ8 made its public debut not in the Swiss city of Geneva but 2,900 miles away in Doha, Qatar. Due to a three-year hiatus prompted by the coronavirus pandemic, this year's Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) found a new venue at the Doha Exhibition and Convention Center. Nevertheless, the event still attracted major players in the automotive industry, including Audi.
Power Meets Luxury
Audi decided to show off its high-performance SQ8, a fire-red spectacle featuring a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. With this powerhouse, the SQ8 produces a stunning 500 horsepower and 568 pound-feet (770 Newton-meters) of torque.
Styling and Tech Updates
The SQ8's mid-cycle update comes about five years after the original Q8's launch. Audi brings subtle styling changes and more advanced lighting technology to the mix. At the front, the luxury SUV offers optional HD Matrix LED headlights with a laser high beam. The taillights now employ OLED technology, while the revised grille includes octagonal elements. Adding to the glamour, the show model features side mirror caps made of carbon fiber and rides on enormous 23-inch wheels, though Audi will also offer 22- and 21-inch sets.
Speed and Future Releases
Don't be fooled by the SQ8's considerable size and weight. This SUV can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds and can reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Audi is also expected to unveil the RS Q8 facelift in the coming weeks or months, for those craving even more performance.
Expanding the Q8 Lineup
Audi plans to offer the SQ8 alongside its gasoline and diesel Q8 variants and a fully electric Q8 E-Tron / Q8 E-Tron Sportback, which are facelifted versions of the existing E-Tron models.
