In a striking showcase at SEMA 2023, Toyota has unveiled two captivating restomods that revisit the iconic charm of the Land Cruiser, embellished with modern-day engineering. The FJ Bruiser and Retro Cruiser are more than just a nod to the classics; they are a testament to timeless design married to contemporary technology.

The FJ Bruiser is crafted to conquer rough terrains with an ease that defies its vintage appearance. At the heart of this rock-crawling behemoth is a 5.9-liter V8 NASCAR engine, belting out a whopping 725 horsepower.

Coupled with a MagnaFlow exhaust, the engine’s roar is as enthralling as its power. The race-built three-speed automatic transmission, solid rear axles, and Currie differentials front and rear enhance its off-road capabilities. A unique feature of the FJ Bruiser is its onboard track system to power out of sticky situations without a hitch, managed from the comfort of the cabin.

The exterior sports a silky blue finish, while the interior pays homage to the past with new Momo Daytona Evo seats trimmed in plaid, reminiscent of the original FJ bench seats.

On the other hand, the Retro Cruiser narrates a story of a hypothetical idea maturing into a mesmerizing reality. Initiated in 1999, this project aimed to meld modern Land Cruiser technology with the classic FJ style. It’s a journey from a humble $5,000 vehicle to a restomod masterpiece, with its frame lengthened by 10 inches and a suspension overhaul aiming for "ultimate Toyota comfort car in the early 2000s."

Under the hood, it houses a 4.7-liter V8 engine from the Land Cruiser 100, paired with a four-speed automatic transmission from the same lineage. The interior is a lap of luxury with Connolly leather enveloping almost every surface, while modern amenities like navigation and a satellite phone are neatly integrated, ensuring a luxurious yet rugged adventure on wheels.

Both the FJ Bruiser and Retro Cruiser epitomize Toyota's timeless appeal and innovative spirit. As the Land Cruiser nameplate makes its return to the US, these restomods are not just a tribute to the past but a celebration of enduring legacy and modern-day automotive excellence.
