P1 Successor Is Awaited On Mid-Decade. Why the wait?

The next McLaren Ultimate Series will be unveiled very soon. So, why so much time needed? Obviously, the pandemic and the overpopulated market hit hard the production capacity.
Studying the Elvas’ path initially planned to produce 399 hypercars, produced 249, and sold only 149. There is also the $1.82 price set for the model which didn’t catch the eye of the customers.
Initially featured as a hybridized powertrain in 2013 with a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V8 engine which delivers 903 hp and 900Nm of torque, the future production will continue to improve the P1 specs over the next years.
