New Land Rover Defender Sibling Coming In 2027?
by AutoExpert | 8 August, 2023
The CEO of JLR has recently stated that there are plans for a smaller Land Rover Defender that will be a great addition to their lineup. The word on the street is that this new model will be all-electric and ride on JLR's cutting-edge EMA EV platform, which they're putting a huge $15 billion into.
The new Defender and the first of three electric Jaguars will both be built on this basis.
This news comes after JLR's choice to split the Land Rover brand into three separate sub-brands: Range Rover, Defender, and Discovery. All three are part of a larger concept that also includes Jaguar. If they keep using the same name scheme, the baby Defender will probably be called the Defender Sport.
We don't know a lot about the EMA platform, but we do know that the first model, which will come out in 2025, will be based on the Range Rover. The Range Rover Velar EV is supposed to be the first EV to come out.
Fans are looking forward to the Discovery Sport EV, which is expected to come out in 2026. And for those who have been waiting excitedly for the Defender's electric version to come out, it is expected to do so in 2027.
The baby Defender should be about the same size as the present Discovery Sport. And don't think that the all-electric baby Defender will be less capable off-road. In the words of JLR's CEO, the Defender has always been about pushing limits and accepting the impossible. These traits are set to continue in their electric form. A dual-motor setup that is expected to come with an eAWD system will make sure that the new Defender stays true to its bold roots.
