MG's Marvel R Electric Muscle Car Goes On Sale In Europe From €39,990
by AutoExpert | 12 October, 2021
The new MG Marvel R Electric, a fully electric C-SUV flagship, is MG Motors' latest onslaught in the European market. If the model's name seems familiar, it's because it was first revealed in March with a debut date of May, but that date was later moved to October.
Marvel R isn't a new car because it's been available in China since 2020. Indeed, the Roewe Marvel X, which made its debut in 2018, has undergone a revamp. There are no significant differences in terms of design from the Rowe Marvel R other than front and rear emblems. With the LED headlights and tail lights as well as the big intakes, the vehicle has a more contemporary look while maintaining an SUV-like profile.
Comfort, Luxury, and Performance are the three trim levels available for the MG Marvel R Electric. The rear axle of both the Comfort and Luxury variants is equipped with two electric motors that provide 177 hp (132 kW / 180 PS) and 410 Nm of torque (302.4 lb-ft). This allows for a 7.9-second acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) and a max speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).
A single motor is added to the front axle for a mixed output of 284 hp (212 kW / 288 PS) and 665 Nm in the Performance model (490.5 lb-ft). This one speeds from zero to 100 km/h (0 to 62 mph) in 4.9 secs while maintaining the same high speed of 200 km/h (124 mph).
The 70 kWh battery is standard on all EU-spec MG Marver R Electric vehicles, providing up to 402 km (250 miles) of WLTP endurance for the dual-motor and 370 km (230 miles) for the tri-motor. A DC charger can recharge the battery from 5 to 80 % in 43 mins. With a load capacity of 2,500W, the conventional Vehicle-to-Load enables the battery to generate electricity to external electrical components.
The five-seater cabin, according to MG, offers premium materials and abundant equipment. There are 357 liters (12.6 cubic feet) in the trunk, plus 150 liters (5.3 cubic feet) in the front. The MG iSmart entertainment system (Apple CarPlay / Android Auto compatibility, Amazon Web Services) is coupled with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on a large 19.4-inch touchscreen that dominates the sloping center console.
Dual-zone climate control, four USB ports, a panoramic roof, and partly leather upholstery are all key equipment. A 360-degree camera, ambient lighting, heated seats, and a Bose premium sound system are included in the Luxury and Performance trims. The MG Pilot suite of safety features 14 ADAS, featuring Traffic Jam Assistance.
Marvel R Electric will be on sale in Europe with the MG HS plug-in hybrid, competing with vehicles such as the VW ID.4, Skoda Enyaq iV, Kia Niro EV, and others. The base Comfort costs €39,990 ($46,304), the Luxury costs €43,990 ($50,932), and the flagship Performance costs €47,990 ($55,563), making it the most expensive model in the MG lineup.
