Following an interview with Car and driver magazine at the Los Angeles Auto Show, the president of AMG division, Tobias Moers, said that it is possible that they will offer the convertible version of recently launched AMG GT coupe.
This statement comes as a bomb, because reports coming from Mercedes let us believe that launching a convertible version of the new coupe is out of the question. It was done to not create panic and competition within the family as AMG GT Cabrio would seriously affect the SL roadster model which sales are below expectations.
Tobias Moers, has also confirmed the launch of a premium coupe which will be called AMG GT Black Series. When asked if they plan to launch a racing edition such as GT3, he replied: "I had a delicate approach to a possible racing edition for AMG GT model. I'm not sure we will be launching one. It's premature to do it today". However, AMG CEO hinted that most likely the third version will be positioned between GT S version and AMG GT Black Series.
Today, AMG GT is offered in two versions, the standard 462PS and AMG GT S with 510 HP power produced from the new twin-turbo V8.
