Maybach has introduced its first ever plug-in hybrid vehicle, the S580e sedan, and announced that it will launch its first electric vehicle this year.
The Maybach S580e sedan is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbocharged engine, capable of producing 362 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, with an electric motor that adds 148 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque.
The combined output results in 503 horsepower and 553 lb-ft of torque, allowing for quick acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 5.1 seconds and a maximum speed of 155 mph. One of the key features of the Maybach S580e is its 28 kWh battery pack, which provides an electric-only driving range of up to 62 miles.
When driving in electric mode, the vehicle's top speed is capped at 87 mph. The battery can be fully charged in as little as 30 minutes using the optional 60 kW DC charging.
On the outside, the only distinguishing features of the S580e PHEV are the lettering on the trunk, the blue accents in the headlights, and the charging port on the rear fenders. The interior is luxurious as well, but the quiet operation in electric mode makes it clear that this is a PHEV.
The new Maybach S580e will initially be launched in China and then rolled out to Thailand, Europe, and other markets in the future. During the official announcement, the head of Mercedes-Maybach, Daniel Lescow, confirmed that the first fully electric Maybach will be released in 2023. It is expected to be based on the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, as indicated by recent spy photos.
