Massive Toyota Recall: Drivetrain Dilemmas for Tacoma, Tundra, and Lexus LX600
by AutoExpert | 29 February, 2024
Toyota's had a rough week – they just issued two recalls covering over half a million vehicles! Both are for drivetrain problems, which is always serious. The biggest one affects about 381,000 Tacoma trucks from 2022 and 2023.
Here's what's going on: during manufacturing, some Tacomas might have gotten welding gunk inside the rear axle. That could mess with the brakes and even make the truck unstable if certain nuts come loose. Scary stuff!
We don't have details on accidents or injuries yet. Toyota's keeping things kinda hush-hush for now, but official recall info should be out in April. Dealers will be checking and replacing axles if needed.
The second recall is slightly smaller – 280,000 vehicles. This one affects a mix of Toyota Tundras, Lexus LX600s, and Sequoias from those model years. Basically, they might unexpectedly shift into neutral. Toyota says they could creep forward a few miles per hour. Not great, but at least the fix is easy – just a software update for the transmission.
All in all, a big recall from Toyota. But hey, at least they're not Ford! Ford takes the crown for recalls – they started the year by recalling over two million Explorers.
