Lucid Motors Prepares For 'Earth' Electric Crossover Launch With Trademark Filings
by AutoExpert | 16 May, 2024
"Earth" might be the name of Lucid Motors' upcoming electric crossover, according to three recent trademark applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office. InsideEVs first reported the names "Earth," "Lucid Earth," and "Earth Dream Edition" in the trademark applications.
These names suggest that there will be a standard model and a top-tier variant. If we find another trademark for an Earth Sapphire, we'll let you know, but we don't anticipate considering it for a few years. CEO Peter Rawlinson hinted in 2026 that Lucid's midsize Model Y competitor will likely use these names.
We anticipate the production of a high-volume midsize electric crossover under the Lucid Earth moniker in 2026. Lucid plans to launch it with a starting MSRP of $48,000. At the time of writing, the Model Y with the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim level had an MSRP of $44,990 before discounts and rebates, so that's more than the base model.
Tesla's alternative Model S and the Air sedan won't directly compete due to the crossover's slightly higher price, but the Air sedan has proven to be more opulent and roomier in the past. Lucid wants a lot of sales from this product; therefore, the proximity in price isn't an accident. CarBuzz has contacted Lucid to inquire about this trademark, but manufacturers typically withhold details about future products.
We expect this name to remain unconfirmed for some time. Regardless, the Earth won't be Lucid's next product; the company still plans to start manufacturing the Gravity big SUV before the year ends.
