Lordstown Is Preparing Endurance EV Pickup For The 2021 SCORE International Race!
by AutoExpert | 24 February, 2021
After planning to expand a Lordstown Assembly Plant in Lordstown, Ohio, the Motor Company announced their intention to participate in racing. Not just any race, but 2021 SCORE International San Felipe 250. This means that the dessert will have an electric silent participant, due to the fact that is an electric pickup. It’s a wise marketing strategy to promote the company’s electric chassis platform.
Joining the 290 miles single loop desert race is an act of courage Lordstown's Endurance Ev Pickup since to get the entrance ticket, a motor company must be equipped with all sorts of race vehicle tidbits to pass tech inspection while also being robust enough for the gnarly race conditions. This time, Lordstown will participate with a vehicle that will solely run an Endurance Beta Skateboard, and not necessarily the pickup truck body.
Here comes the testing part. They started testing the Beta skateboard in January, starting with the Alpha and Beta prototype, with pre-production, and the production itself following. It’s a fact, that such a race tests the “superior traction, weight balance and advanced software control for the hub-motor based Endurance.”
This is a race where only getting to the finish line in one piece, is a victory flag. The desert climate and tracks are the true competitors for any pickup. There’s dust, silt, rocks, water, debris, and a heavy resistance abuse to withstand. In this race, there's more risk of mechanical failures than human error.
It takes thorough planning and testing for each chassis specification apart. And there is the obvious question of the mile range provided by the electric pickup. The full charge is enough for only 250 miles, while the race track has 290 miles plus the unplanned challenges that might appear. A range enhancement is required. A larger battery, a heavier pickup, and the risk calculations start over once more.
Also, a partnership with an experienced racer is required, yet none has been announced. There’s the rumor about Gref Faust of Fautz Motorsports being one of the candidates.
We’ll be back with updates after April 17, 2021, when the race will take place and besides the results, Lordstown will reveal the worth and the details about the preparation for this race.
