Last Of Its Kind: Suzuki Italia’s Jimny Mata Brings A Limited Edition Farewell
by AutoExpert | 1 November, 2024
Suzuki Italia is giving their beloved Jimny a final send-off with a special edition limited to just 150 units in Italy. This exclusive model, named the Jimny Mata, builds on a concept shown at the 2024 Turin Motor Show, bringing back a handful of retro-inspired design elements and rugged upgrades.
The Jimny Mata sports a striking bi-tone look with Metallic Siberian Silver complemented by Matte Black accents.
Up front, we have a cute grille, aluminum-style skid plate and side skirts for added toughness, and black plastic bumpers and fender extensions. Side protective stripes, mud flaps, and a set of 15-inch alloy wheels round out the off-road package. There’s also extra underbody protection and a rigid cover for the rear spare tire.
Inside, each Suzuki Jimny Mata has a unique numbered plaque, adding to the model’s exclusivity. Built on a high-spec trim, the Mata comes with a 7-inch infotainment screen, a Pioneer sound system, a rearview camera, heated seats, and some basic ADAS features, along with a practical rubber-lined cargo area. Like all EU-spec Jimnys since 2021, the Mata version is only available as a two-seater light commercial vehicle, due to emissions regulations.
The same 1.5-liter engine with 101 hp and 130 Nm of torque powers it, paired with a 5-speed manual transmission that drives all four wheels. The name “Mata,” meaning “again” or “beyond” in Japanese, is a nod to the chance to own this unique model before it leaves the European market temporarily, with Suzuki Italia hinting that it may be the last of its kind for a while.
Suzuki has confirmed that a refreshed Jimny with a hybrid powertrain is in the pipeline, aiming to re-enter Europe as a passenger vehicle. They’re even planning a fully electric version, along with possible new body styles, including a pickup variant. The Jimny Mata opens for orders on November 30.
