Jaywalking: A Dangerous Game or Just Overhyped?

Okay, we've all done it: Ducked across the street to the store, instead of trekking to the crosswalk. It's jaywalking, but who cares, right? Well...
Safety First (Kinda) The thing is, those pedestrian death stats are INSANE. Jaywalking IS dangerous, especially with everyone distracted lately... which is why it's illegal in most places.
But the History is WEIRD Remember back when cars were NEW? Pedestrians ruled the streets. This whole "jaywalking" thing was invented by car companies to shame people into making way for drivers!
Laws = Super Confusing Every state's different. Crosswalks, signals, it's ALL a mess. Even if jaywalking's illegal, cops usually don't bother, unless someone gets hurt – and THEN it's both your faults, even if you technically had the "right of way". Ugh.
So, the takeaway?
Drivers: Chill out, watch for EVERYONE, not just those in crosswalks.
Walkers: Don't be a dummy. Use crossings when you can, and be predictable – cars can't read your mind!
Basically, it's a shared responsibility. Being "right" won't fix you if you get hit.
