It's Official: Moke Californian Is Back In The States

In the United States, the Moke hasn't been seen for 40 years, but now it's back—with a major twist. This time around, the EV can go up to 50 mph and has a range of 75 miles, making it suitable for use on public roads. The Moke Californian is an all-electric version of the original Mini Moke.
A variant of the original Moke marketed in the United States between 1977 and 1982 also had the "Californian" moniker. The Moke Californian is a product of Moke International, the owner of the original Moke brand from 1964 and of more than a hundred more trademarks using the Moke name.
Also, there is no connection between Moke International and Moke America, another electric vehicle manufacturer with a very similar design. Currently, they are in the middle of a legal struggle over the trademark. It has been claimed by Moke International that Moke America has stolen its design and that its vehicles do not adhere to American safety standards.
The back wheels of the electric Moke Californian, which will be manufactured in the United Kingdom, will get power from a 33 kW (44 horsepower) engine. It can reach a speed of about 34 miles per hour in only 4.3 seconds, which is not bad at all.
According to the WLTP cycle, the lithium-ion battery can power the vehicle for 75 miles of driving. A regular US Type 1 charger can completely recharge the battery in around four hours. We don't yet know how much the Moke Californian will cost in the United States, but it will likely be priced similarly to the UK, where it starts at £29,150 (about $33,000).
