Baidu, the Chinese internet and AI behemoth has presented its second-generation artificial intelligence chip, as well as a slew of other significant automotive-related technologies, such as a "robocar."
The new Kunlun2 AI chip was unveiled at Baidu's annual Baidu World conference. The chip, according to Baidu, will be utilized in areas such as driverless vehicles to enable devices to analyze large quantities of data and improve processing capacity. It's already in large-scale production and follows the first-generation Kunlun chip, which was released in 2018.
During the occasion, Baidu made several other significant disclosures. This featured the unveiling of a fascinating robocar. The vehicle is a prototype that looks nothing like any other four-wheeled vehicle. It has gullwing doors and is devoid of standard controls like a steering wheel and pedals since Baidu claims it is capable of completely autonomous driving. It will also include speech and facial recognition, as well as the ability to assess its internal and external environments and offer predictive suggestions to better suit its passengers' requirements.
While Baidu has not stated whether or not this robocar would be produced, it has been experimenting robotaxi options in cities around China, including Guangzhou and Beijing. Wei Dong, Vice President of Baidu's intelligent driving business, told CNBC that the technology firm hopes to have its robotaxi service available to the general public in chosen locations within two years.
“We think that the automobiles of the future will be robocars,” said Robin Li, co-founder, and CEO of Baidu. “They will be self-learning, drive autonomously, and function as both an intelligent helper and a devoted partner.”
