Hyundai Has Called Time On The Development Of Internal Combustion Engines
by AutoExpert | 30 December, 2021
Whispers and rumors about Hyundai executives halting all internal combustion engine production were circulating the internet, and it appears that they weren't simply hearsay as of this month. According to Business Korea and The Korea Economic Daily, the Namyang Research Institute underwent a full reorganization a few weeks ago, bringing with it some big changes.
The Powertrain Team, for example, has been renamed the Electrification Development Team, which will focus on everything electric, including research & innovation for future Hyundai vehicles.
The Engine Development Center has also been decommissioned, and the Battery Development Center has taken its place. From now on, its objective is to focus completely on electrification. The Integrated Product Development Team joined forces with the Project Management Team, resulting in a squad that would handle mass manufacturing, design, and more across all of the automaker's car levels.
Hyundai's newest wave of efforts toward a totally electric future shouldn't come as a surprise, given that we previously reported on the Ioniq 5's 2021 arrival date and the upcoming Ioniq 7 SUV's near-production status.
