Huawei And BAIC Introduce The New Stelato S9 EV
by AutoExpert | 15 March, 2024
The Chinese automaker Stelato is relatively new to the market. Huawei and BAIC, a Chinese automobile and tech behemoth, have formed a new joint venture called Stelato, and the S9 is their first offering. This EV arrived at the MIIT in China ahead of schedule.
Several Chinese manufacturers have joined together with Huawei for their HIMA project. These include AITO (Seres), Luxeed (Chery), Stelato (BAIC), and the soon-to-be-launched Aojie (JAC). Because of this, we can see why the Stelato S9 and the Luxeed S7 are so similar.
Nonetheless, there are dimension discrepancies, minor changes in lighting components, and distinctive badging. The Stelato S9 has a wheelbase of 120.1 inches and measures 203.1 inches in length, 78.2 inches in width, and 58.5 inches in height. It is 7.4 inches longer than the Luxeed S7, with an additional 3.9 inches between the axles.
The Stelato S9 stands out among competing electric vehicles by being much longer than the Tesla Model S by 7.1 inches, shorter than the Mercedes-Benz EQS sedan by 2.5 inches, and significantly shorter than the BMW i7 by 9.1 inches.
Both a completely electric and a range-extender powertrain, employing electric motors and batteries provided by Huawei and CATL, will be offered for the Stelato S9. Two electric motors, one delivering 304 horsepower and the other 212 horsepower, are included in the top trim. The images show a Lidar installed on top, more ADAS sensors in the front, side, and back, and a pair of cameras that can replace the mirrors as an option.
There will likely be a public unveiling of the Stelato S9 during April's Beijing Auto Show. Reports from Chinese media indicate that the market debut is scheduled for June, with prices falling within the range of ¥300,000-500,000 (about $42,000 to US$70,000). As the Stelato S9 makes its debut in China, BAIC plans to ship it to additional European and Asian countries.
