Ford Faces Fresh Recall Fiasco: Faulty Takata Airbag Fixes Exposed
by AutoExpert | 29 February, 2024
Ford just can't catch a break with recalls. First, the whole Takata airbag mess, and now it turns out they might not have even fixed them right! Seriously?
So, What Happened This Time?
Turns out some shady dealerships were either faking the repairs to get paid, or doing them so sloppily they might as well have done nothing. Ford's now admitting that nearly 42,000 cars could have airbags that still won't work.
Which Models Are Affected?
If you've got one of these, get it checked ASAP:
- 2005-2014 Ford Mustang
- 2005-2006 Ford GT
- 2006-2012 Ford Fusion, Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr, Mercury Milan
- A bunch of other Ford and Lincoln models – check the official recall list
Wait, Ford Knew About This?
Apparently, yeah. The Detroit Free Press dug up that Ford's been quietly reinspecting these cars since last March, and even slapped dealerships with $10k fines for the botched jobs.
And This Isn't Even Their First Oops...
Nope. Last year, they had to recall Rangers AGAIN because even after the airbags were replaced, some weren't installed right.
The Scary Part
This whole Takata airbag recall is HUGE, and millions of cars still aren't fixed! These things are basically ticking timebombs – people have DIED from them exploding.
Bottom Line
If you got your airbag "fixed" at a Ford dealer, don't assume it's okay. Get it double-checked, and don't be afraid to raise hell if they messed it up. This isn't something to play around with!
