First Look: The 2025 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid Steals The Spotlight
by AutoExpert | 21 October, 2024
The buzz surrounding the new Crosstrek Hybrid is real! Set to debut in Japan this December, the 2025 Subaru Crosstrek is boasting a next-generation hybrid system that promises significant improvements in efficiency.
At the heart of this setup is a newly developed 2.5-liter boxer engine, putting out 158 horsepower and 154 lb-ft of torque. This engine is complemented by a rear-mounted 1.1 kWh lithium-ion battery and a transaxle equipped with two electric motors. One of those motors functions as a generator, while the other—a traction motor—delivers 118 horsepower and 199 lb-ft of torque.
The traction motor can serve as the primary power source in various driving situations and also allows for short bursts of electric-only driving. True to Subaru’s reputation, all-wheel drive is present, but they’ve opted for a mechanical setup instead of Toyota’s favored rear eAxle. Subaru, drawing on Toyota’s hybrid expertise, says this new strong hybrid system will improve fuel efficiency by 20%, giving the Crosstrek a range exceeding 621 miles.
Another perk for adventurers: the Crosstrek will come with an AC100V/1500W outlet, perfect for powering up a campsite. In terms of trim options, Subaru will offer two versions of the Crosstrek Hybrid in Japan. The base 2025 Subaru Crosstrek model sports e-Boxer badging and rides on 18-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, drivers will enjoy a two-tone interior with a leather-wrapped steering wheel, black accents, and a 4.2-inch multi-information display.
The top-tier EX trim steps up the tech, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, GPS navigation, and Subaru's EyeSight system, which includes Active Lane Change Assist and Traffic Jam Assist. The carmaker is already accepting reservations in Japan, and early buyers will score a Crosstrek-branded portable fridge.
