Ferrari Electric Car To Be Developed By An Ex-Apple Designer

To kick off the multi-year relationship, Ferrari and its parent company Exor N.V. announced a partnership with LoveFrom, a “collective of designers.” Former Apple design chief Jony Ive and Marc Newson are the LoveFrom designers Ferrari will work with on a Ferrari electric car. They co-created the Apple Watch before departing the Silicon Valley tech firm.
As Ferrari buyers and collectors, Ive and Newson are thrilled to be working with the outstanding company and in particular with Flavio Manzoni's design team. “We feel that working together will produce meaningful and valuable work.”
LoveFrom's unrivaled experience and creativity will be combined with Ferrari's famed performance and quality. Abandoning its involvement in the automotive business, the firm will assist Ferrari in the fashion industry, as witnessed recently with their debut runway show in Milan.
"Soon after LoveFrom was created, we began discussing ways to merge Jony and Marc's world-renowned talent with ours in complementary and incremental ways," said John Elkann, Exor CEO and Ferrari Chairman. "In building our future, Ferrari represents a first, thrilling chance."
Ferrari has recently shifted to the area of high technology. After CEO Louis Camilleri unexpectedly retired, the company named Benedetto Vigna as CEO. At STMicroelectronics, he helped create the technology that allows smartphones to transition from landscape to portrait mode.
Its work will not be confined to Ferrari. They declared in a news release they will work with Exor's other enterprises on luxury items. As reported by Reuters, the corporation owns a 24% stake in Hermes' Chinese luxury group Shang Xia.
“We have known John [Elkann] for many years and admire his wisdom and vision,” Ive and Newson added. “We are excited to begin such a long-term relationship with Ferrari and Exor.”
