Fastest Street-Legal SUV Ever: Brabus 900 Rocket Edition
by AutoExpert | 23 September, 2021
Brabus 900 Rocket Edition SUV was presented at the 2021 Monaco Yacht Show, with a top speed of 205 mph (330 km/h). The company launched the 800 SUV Coupe based on the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S 4MATIC+ Coupe exactly two months ago, but it now appears that the tuner had an even quicker version in the works.
Starting with the engine, the twin-turbo V8 now has a displacement of 4,407cc, up from 3,982cc before. New turbochargers, larger forged pistons, longer forged piston rods, a billet crankshaft, high-pressure pumps, larger downpipes, and software updates are among the modifications.
The mill develops 888-hp (662 kW / 900 PS) and a maximum torque of 1,250 Nm (922 lb-ft), albeit the latter is limited to 1,050 Nm (774 lb-ft) to protect the driveline. The 4MATIC+ system uses a 9-speed automatic transmission to send power to all four wheels.
According to Brabus, 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) takes 3.2 seconds. When you add in the 205 mph peak speed, the new Brabus 900 Rocket Edition is (at least on paper) far faster than the Bentley Bentayga Speed, Lamborghini Urus, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and practically any other stock performance SUV on the planet.
Nevertheless, you must order the vehicle with the 23-inch Brabus Monoblock Y “Platinum Edition” wheels, which are shod in Continental tires (295/30 ZR23 front and 335/30 ZR23 rear), rather than the 24-inch Brabus Monoblock Z “Platinum Edition” wheels, which include exposed-carbon aero-discs.
In the air suspension system, Brabus has fitted its own control module, dropping the car by 25 mm (1 inch). Vented and cross-drilled carbon-ceramic brake discs measuring 400 mm (15.7 inches) in front and 360 mm (14.2 inches) in back provide braking power.
The body's uncovered carbon-fiber elements, such as a redesigned grille, front splitter, fender extenders, three-piece back spoiler, diffuser, and extra trim for the inlets/outlets, have received styling upgrades akin to the Brabus 800 SUV Coupe. Four titanium/carbon tailpipes with dynamic sound control are included in the stainless sport exhaust system.
Brabus has incorporated excellent leather upholstery in any requested hue, as well as Alcantara, noble-wood, and carbon fiber to the interior. The demonstration car has red highlights that blend with the Superior Gray paint.
Brabus will only produce 25 units of the 900 Rocket, so anyone intrigued in owning the "world's fastest street-legal SUV" should act quickly.
The starting price of €381,243 ($447,407) before taxes is much higher than the regular Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 S Coupe's $116,000 price tag, but the upgrades are substantial. Brabus offers a three-year or 100,000-kilometer/62,000-mile guarantee for ultimate convenience.
