Fans of the flying Citroen DS from the 1965 film "Fantomas Unleashed," featuring the legendary French actor Louis de Funès, were taken aback when DS Automobiles released an official design portraying a current interpretation of the vehicle.
Coinciding with the launch of a temporary exhibition titled "On the Move with Louis de Funès," which honors the classic vehicles used in the actor's films, the release of this sketch adds to the enthusiasm of the occasion. Design Director of DS Automobiles Thierry Metroz has stated that the latest version of the flying Citroen DS is a tribute to the original French classic and France's extensive cinematic heritage.
The contemporary version of the Citroen DS is styled as a sumptuous Grand Tourer, although it keeps the wings and rear spoiler from the original. It has a low-slung body, a long hood, LED headlamps placed in fender sections, and a prominent splitter.
According to Metroz, the Louis de Funès Museum commissioned DS Automobiles to build a modern DS in commemoration of the classic Fantomas DS, and the drawing was done by Geoffrey Rossillon, a member of the exterior design team directed by Frédéric Soubirou. The exhibition "On the Move with Louis de Funès," which is now on display at the Musée National de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, France, will remain there until November 5, 2023.
