Porsche had quite the surprise in store for the Rennsport Reunion with the introduction of the 911 GT3 R Rennsport. This model may be based on the 911 GT3 R race car, but interestingly, visually only the hood and roof have been borrowed from it. Everything else about the body is entirely unique.

Porsche is dubbing this the successor to the modern Porsche 935. The 911 GT3 R Rennsport boasts a redesigned front fascia, featuring a new bumper with larger air intakes and a wider stance. It's also swapped out traditional wing mirrors for digital ones.

At the rear, there's a massive wing with a design reminiscent of the Brumos Porsche 935/77. Additionally, this track-only model sports a full-width LED light bar. Buyers have a choice of seven different colors, including Star Ruby and Signal Orange, along with various customization options. Porsche is even offering it in Agate Grey Metallic with carbon fiber bodywork.

Inside, the cabin closely resembles the race car but includes rear-facing camera screens, ambient lighting, and a roll cage for added functionality. Now, let's talk power. The 4.2-liter naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine, based on the race car's, gets rid of motorsport restrictions and revs up to an impressive 9,400 rpm. It churns out 612 hp, which translates to 146 hp per liter of displacement. The engine can run on E25 fuel and features custom pistons and camshafts.

Paired with this engine is a sequential six-speed constant-mesh transmission that drives the rear wheels, complete with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters. Porsche has tweaked the gear ratios in the race car to boost the Rennsport's top speed by 12 mph.

Under the skin, Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport maintains its performance with five-way adjustable KW racing shocks and double wishbone suspension. Custom Michelin Pilot Sport M S9 tires have been developed for this model, and it also comes standard with a set of massive AP brakes. They're planning to produce just 77 units of this special model, and it comes with a starting price tag of $1,046,000.
