BYD's YangWang Division Takes On Tesla With Flagship U7 Electric Sedan

BYD's YangWang luxury division is stepping up its game by unveiling the flagship U7, previously known as the U6. Priced at ¥1 million ($140,000), this four-door coupe, part of YangWang's electric lineup, competes directly with Tesla's Model S Plaid.
The sleek design, with a 0.195 CD efficiency, is the work of former Audi designer Wolfgang Egger, promising both aerodynamics and style.
While precise dimensions and technical specs are pending, the YangWang U7 boasts a potent quad-motor electric drivetrain generating around 1,006 hp. Notably, a lidar sensor above the windshield suggests Level 3 autonomous driving capability.
Unlike the U8 SUV, which incorporates a 2.0-liter petrol engine as a range extender, the YangWang U7 seems to focus solely on electric power. The design shares familiar traits with BYD's more affordable models, including the Seal, reminiscent of the Tesla Model 3.
Visual cues like headlights and silhouette draw connections, but the U7 likely surpasses the Seal's 189-inch length, potentially reaching 201 inches. BYD's YangWang division seems determined to make a mark, challenging Tesla directly with its advanced and stylish U7 sedan.
