BMW M3 Competition Reporting For Australian Highway Patrol Duties
by AutoExpert | 15 December, 2021
An all-new BMW M3 Competition has just been introduced to the fleet of the Victoria Police Highway Patrol in Australia as part of the vehicle's assessment and evaluation procedure. The exterior of the M3 Competition is white, with yellow and blue Highway Patrol decorations and inverted Police writing on the hood.
It is distinguished from civilian M3s by its unique livery and blue/red lights. The baseline twin-turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder motor, paired to an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission, produces 503 hp (375 kW / 510 PS) and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque in Competition trim.
This much power seems more than plenty for a highway patrol car, however, the RWD model's 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time of 3.9 secs is significantly slower than the AWD model with the M xDrive technology. "Specialist duties" have already been assigned to the vehicle by the Victoria Police Highway Patrol, according to Victoria's Highway Patrol.
